I'm currently working on a web project that will become the company's online office with all their internal information stored and documentation for each of the projects they are working on. There aren't many requirements for this project, it just have to work. No hassle. No thinking. Just work. The login is simple, but what about if they should forget their passwords, or even their username?

  1. If you don’t remember your username, please contact Håvard Hvassing (your account administrator). If you are Håvard Hvassing, we can send your username to the email address we have on file.

    It should say:

If you don’t remember your username, please contact Håvard Hvassing (your accound administrator). If you are Håvard Hvassing, you are in deep shit!

  2. Hahaha! Sure should!

As more and more places have their own user account systems with different usernames and passwords, it’s becoming more of a hassle to remember all those. And experience have it that getting a new password is anything but easy.
So after doing some research and trying out some solutions of my own, I’m not really sure what’s the best solution for password retrieval. E-mail is not secure and you can’t send username and password by snail mail either. So far, the best solution seems to be some sort of confirmation code sent to your phone by SMS.
