Skype

After almost three months with only MSN and e-mail as tools to communicate with the outside world (i.e. other than Tanzania) I read a post at Martin Bekkelund about Skype. I had heard people talk about it, but never tried it myself.
After a few arguments and some difference of opinion I decided to give Skype a try, and blimey; it worked beyond every expectation between Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Narvik, Norway. Why on earth would I spend $4 per minute using my cell phone when Skype work so well? I must say I was really surprised and had never ever thought it would be such an good experience. Just a slight delay in the conversation but that's peanuts considering my location.
On the contrary; if I start browsing the Internet while Skyping the conversation more or less stops as there is not enough bandwidth. As well; using speakers with Skype is not ideal as you get a rather annoying echo or feedback.
I haven't yet tried the program SkypeOut which lets you make a phone call from your computer to a land line. Although I don't see any reason to why pay for such a service when it's free to call between computers.
Six months later I've stopped using Skype, mainly because my microphone was not in any mood to co-operate with my newly acquired Mac. So as soon as I get a new microphone and perhaps even a new headset I will be Skyping once again. Please do not hesitate calling me.

Oh, Skype is just great. Still, I have to admit that I never use it, for one single reason: I have free cellphone. However, I would have if I had to pay my own phone bills.
