For the next months I will be in charge of a thoroughly and exciting research of the Microsoft SharePoint software and how the IST school can benefit from using it. This is going to be my so called Service-activity for the next months.
As a mandatory part of the IB curriculum all IB students have to do at least 150 hours of what is called CAS-activities a year. CAS is short for Creativity, Action and Service and is meant to make the students aware of their social responsibility and create a commitment to the society helping them reflect over life and the surroundings.
One of my CAS-activities; the service part will be to manage the schools flow of information across the internal computer network. With almost 1200 different users spread across three campuses there is a huge amount of data and information that needs to be spread around to different parts of the school. Both between the teachers and the students, but also between teachers and parents as well as between different groups consisting of teachers, students, administration and in some cases external resources as well.
CAS is even more important than biology, and that’s saying something - Tim Getter, CAS-Coordinator IST
To keep track of all this data the school is about to try out the Microsoft SharePoint to see if we can make the flow of information run smoother and at the same time make the school more efficient both with its time and disk space. The research work and testing is being carried out by me and we are hoping that we can get this up running as soon as possible.
